IWAS World Junior Games 2011 will be held in Dubai

Dubai will host the next edition of the International Wheelchair and Amputee (IWAS) World Junior Games in the middle of April next year.

The event was announced at a press conference held on the sidelines of Sportex Middle East — the event for sports, fitness, health and leisure being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre till tomorrow.
Next year’s competition to be held from April 14-21 at the Dubai Police Officers Club and Dubai Special Needs Club in Al Ghusais was announced by Maura Strange, the IWAS Executive Director and Secretary General in the presence of Thani Juma Belreqad, President, Dubai Special Needs Club, Tariq Sultan Bin Khadim, Vice-President, UAE Federation for Special Needs, and Dr Ahmad Sa’ad Al Sharif, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council.
Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, CEO, Falaknaz Group, said that he will sponsor next year’s week-long event.
Last year, the IWAS World Junior Games were held in the Czech Republic and brought together 270 athletes from 23 countries participating in two sporting disciplines.
The local organising committee have anticipations of the 2011 event welcoming even more, with an anticipated 600 participants expected to take part in three disciplines — table tennis, weightlifting and track and field.
The official logo for the Games was unveiled at the end of the press conference.
