World Abilitysport President Supports 2nd Classification Conference & Workshop in Hong Kong

World Abilitysport President, Rudi Van den Abbeele attended the 2nd Classification Conference & Workshop in Hong Kong, joining international experts committed to advancing classification across Para sport.

On Saturday 23rd May, World Abilitysport President, Rudi Van den Abbeele, attended the 2nd Classification Conference & Workshop organised by the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, reinforcing World Abilitysport’s commitment to the continued development of classification across Para sport.

The second edition of the conference opened with the theme “From Principles to Grounded Practice: The Next Chapter in Para Sport Classification” for a series of presentations and practical workshops focused on strengthening classification knowledge, consistency and international collaboration.

The conference welcomed 1,200 participants made up of classifiers, medical professionals and sport representatives from across the world including representatives from International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Asian Paralympic Committee and fellow IOSD, the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).

The first session of the Physical Impairment (PI) workshop was delivered by World Para Fencing International Classifier, Angus Law who outlined the current classification system and the potential for technological advancements in the sport.

Following the conference, Rudi Van den Abbeele said, “As an ex-athlete, international classifier and President of World Abilitysport it was both rewarding and insightful to be among peers advancing the future of classification in Para sport. The conference provided an excellent platform for collaboration, education and the sharing of best practice from across the world from researchers and academics to those working on the ground with the athletes.”
