The 2025 World Abilitysport Games concluded with an unforgettable display of sporting passion and competitive spirit, as athletes from around the world delivered standout performances across Para athletics, shooting Para sport and Para fencing. Host nation Thailand emerged as one of the dominant forces of the Games, particularly in wheelchair racing and shooting events, while strong performances from India, Czech Republic and Italy found them top spots on the medal table.

Thai Racers Continues 2025 Track Domination

On the track, Thailand’s wheelchair racers set the pace for the meet. Athiwat Paeng-Nuea captured the spotlight in the Men’s 400m T54, racing to victory in 45.99 seconds to lead a clean sweep for the Thai team. In the Men’s 400m T53, world record holder Pongsakorn Paeyo reaffirmed his supremacy with a confident gold-medal performance of 49.52 seconds. The women’s squad joined the medal rush as Techinee Duangin secured the Women’s 400m T54 title in 59.75, further strengthening Thailand’s reputation as a powerhouse in wheelchair racing.

On the field, Lithuania’s Ramunas Rojus delivered a commanding performance in the Men’s Shot Put F57, winning gold with a throw of 13.10 metres. India’s throwers excelled across multiple seated categories, highlighted by Muniyasamy Chellappa’s victory in the Men’s Discus F53 with an impressive 18.21 metres. Thailand added to its medal count with Apasiri Nootsreatthee’s confident win in the Women’s Shot Put F37, while India’s Gobind Dubey earned the Men’s Long Jump T47 title with a leap of 6.18 metres, edging teammate Shiek Abdul Kadhar in a close contest.

Home-Nation Shooters Dominate While Slovakia Shines in Rifle Events

In shooting Para sport, Wongsathon Kunthong emerged as one of the event’s breakout stars, capturing two gold medals. His victory in the R4 – 10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2 final came with an outstanding 251.7-point performance, followed by another gold in the R9 – 50m Rifle Prone Mixed SH2, where he finished with 245.5 points after a superbly controlled elimination stage. Penpitcha Thepprachum added to Thailand’s shooting success with a gold medal in the P2 – 10m Air Pistol Women SH1 final, scoring 231.1 to top a competitive field that also included a bronze-medal finish for compatriot Somporn Muangsiri.

Slovakian shooters also delivered an outstanding performance, led by Paralympic legend Veronika Vadovičová, who captured gold in the R2 – 10m Air Rifle Standing Women SH1 with a commanding final score of 248.5. Her teammate Radoslav Malenovský added to Slovakia’s success with a strong showing in the R7 – 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men SH1, where he topped the qualification round with 568 points, the highest mark of the event.

Italian Precision, Thai Consistency and Georgian Breakthroughs Dominate the Piste

Italy opened the event in commanding form, with former French fencer Platania-Parisi edging teammate Emanuele Lambertini 15-14 in a gripping men’s foil category A final, while Georgia celebrated a standout all-Georgian showdown as Zadishvili captured her first World Cup gold in the women’s sabre category A. Italy’s Ionela Andrea Mogos proved unstoppable with victories in both women’s sabre B and later women’s foil B, while Thailand’s Paralympic icon Saysunee Jana thrilled home fans with double gold in the women’s foil and epee B. Additional highlights included South Korea’s Sunmi Kim earning her first career World Cup win in the women’s foil A, and Italy’s Edoardo Giordan securing another men’s sabre A title.

Momentum carried into the final days as Thailand’s Chitiphat Charoenta emerged as one of the stars of the competition, adding gold in the men’s epee B to his earlier sabre triumph before anchoring Thailand’s mixed team successes. Day four showcased exciting new mixed-gender team formats, where Thailand dominated with gold in both sabre and epee, powered by Charoenta and Jana, and added a bronze in team foil behind Italy and France.
