Teams advance to semi-finals at powerchair hockey Worlds

The final groups games saw four teams secure their places in the next stage and keep their dreams of gold alive in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy.
The final group matches of the 2018 International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport (IWAS) Powerchair Hockey World Championships took place on Friday (28 September), with teams advancing to the semi-finals in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy.
Defending champions the Netherlands finished top of group A after a 4-0 win over hosts Italy, but only on goal difference.
Italy breathed a sigh of relief after Switzerland took on newcomers Canada in the group. A 25-0 win was only enough to see the Swiss finish third with more goals conceded.
The Dutch and Italians have similar form heading into the semi-finals with two wins and one loss each.
In group B the Germans posted a strong 10-1 performance over Belgium. They then went onto triumph against Australia 11-1 to top the group and stay unbeaten in the tournament.
Denmark are the second team to advance to the semi-finals having also won their game against Australia 17-1 on Friday.
Italy will go for a place in the final when they meet Germany in the semi-final at 17.00 (CET) on Saturday (29 September).
The Netherlands will face Denmark at 14.30.
In the play-offs for 5th-6th place Switzerland v Australia and Belgium v Canada are the fixtures.
Eight teams are competing – Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Australia, Germany and Switzerland.
The 2018 IWAS Powerchair Hockey World Championships run from 24-30 October.
