On Tuesday 6 October, Russian President, Vladimir Putin met with athletes that represented the Russian Federation at the IWAS World Games 2015 in Sochi last week. Having won a total of 319 medals throughout the Games, 123 gold, 105 silver and 95 bronze, host nation Russia topped the medal table of the 34 nations that competed at the Games.

President Putin congratulated the athletes on their convincing victory in the competition and wished them success in their continuation to the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016. The President also listened to the wishes of the athletes and assured that necessary assistance would be given to address these.

Russian swimmer, Dmitry Grigoryev, who won multiple medals at the IWAS World Games 2015 addressed the athletes and the President with his assurance that the Paralympians of Russia would do all they could to ensure another successful competition in Rio, next year. 

Vladimir Putin has left his signature on the official banner of the IWAS World Games 2015 and was photographed with Russian athletes, coaches and staff.

The meeting was also attended by Russian Presidential Aide Igor Levitin, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vladimir Lukin, Head of the Preparation and Conduct of the IWAS World Games, Vice-President of IWAS, Chairman of the Board, First Vice-President Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Sports Federation of People with Physical Impairments, Lev Seleznev.
