PRESS RELEASE TO ANNOUNCE START OF THE IWAS WORLD GAMES IN STADSKANAAL

230 athletes will compete in three sports Athletics, Swimming and Archery over the next five days in Stadskanaal. Countries participating include Brazil, China, UAE, Iraq, Russia, Finland, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Estonia and Japan.

LATEST PRESS RELEASE FROM IWAS WORLD GAMES IN STADSKANAAL NETHERLANDS

Tuesday 17th September sees the first day of competition at the 4th IWAS (International Wheelchair Amputee and Sports Federation) World Games for athletes with physical difficulties in Stadskanaal in the Netherlands.  At yesterday’s Opening Ceremony in the Pagendal Sports Complex  the President of IWAS Paul DePace welcomed the 380 athletes and officials from 26 countries  and said " That he welcomed the athletes assembled to this unique sporting event and looked forward to them displaying their talents, sportsmanship and ensure good communication through sport between all the nations competing."    

230 athletes will compete in three sports Athletics, Swimming and Archery over the next five days in Stadskanaal. Countries participating include Brazil, China, UAE, Iraq, Russia, Finland, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Estonia and Japan.

Competition gets underway tomorrow when 40 Archers will compete over 4 days of competition.

The athletes starting Wednesday will see athletes compete in three days of track and field competition.  Some of the top athletes to look out for include amputee athletes Bruno Araujo (Brazil), Atsushi Yamamoto (Japan) and Mihail Hristav/Dechko Ovchorov from Bulgaria. 

Apart from providing a top quality competition this week the IWAS World Games will provide an excellent opportunity for athletes to gain international experience.

Last year the IPC European Athletics Championship took place at the same venue
