The IWAS wheelchair Fencing Warsaw World Cup 2017 – Szabla Kilinskiego, provided a spectacular competition with nearly 200 fencers  from 26 countries.

The return of fencers from China and Russia swelled the numbers and gave competitors the opportunity to test their skills against some of the top names in the sport who had been taking a break from recent World Cup competitions.

Mens Foil Cat A and Cat B competitions  had China winning gold medals ( ZHONG Sai Chun and FENG Yanke, ) with strong performances from Italy, France and Great Britain, while in the Men foil cat C Russia took gold ( LOGUTENKO Alexander) and silver with the Ukraine and USA taking the Bronze positions.

Mens Epee competition provided lots of excitement with tactical fencing and a range of styles and techniques.  Cat A gold was won  by Piers Gilliver GBR, with  Belarus Andrei PRANEVICH taking gold in the Cat B competition and Ukraine’s Serhii SHAVKUN in the Cat C competition.

The Mens Sabre competitions were ‘fast and furious’ providing spectators with displays of lightning reactions. Gold Places going to Yijun CHEN of China in the Cat A and Adrian Castro from Poland for Cat B.

The Womens’ Wheelchair Fencing competitions were equally thrilling with top class performances being demonstrated in all three weapons.

YU Chui Yee (CHN) achieved a double gold in the Womens Cat A Epee and Foil, with JANA Saysunee (THA)  and VIO Beatrice (ITA)  taking the Cat B gold medal places in the Epee and Foil competitions respectively.

The Womens Sabre competitions are developing into a strong event with 26 fencers taking part in the Cat A competition and 18 in the Cat B competition. Cat A gold medal winner GU Haiyan (CHN) dominated the field throughout the preliminary rounds to win with a convincing 15-2 against MORKVYCH Natalia (UKR). In the Cat B competition Irma KHETSURIANI (GEO) put up strong opposition to win gold against JANA Saysunee (THA).

Team Events concluded the Warsaw World Cup 2017, with China and Russia dominating the team event; China winning gold in the Men  and Womens Sabre Team competition and Russia taking the gold in the Mens Epee.

 Individual Gold Medal winners were presented with special trophies , Kilinski sabres, from the  the Warsaw Szabla Kilinskiego competition Organisers at the ceremony, presented by IWAS Executive committee Members and dignitaries of the Polish Ministry and the Polish NPC. Entertainment was provided by  SAGO – nominated as the ‘Voice of Poland’ .
