Following the success of the Warsaw World Cup 2017 – Szabla Kilinskiego, the 23U/17U World Championships continued in the same spirit of sporting excellence.

The 23 and Under age group started the proceedings with a full programme of events for both Cat A and B men and women. Months of intense training and preparation for the young athletes enabled a wide range of skills to be demonstrated at the competition.

Many of the Athletes taking part in the 23U competition were still eligible for entry in the 17U competition and this gave a high standard of entries for some of the newcomers to the fencing circuit.

Russia took four out of the 6 gold medals on offer in the 23U competition;  Maxime Shaburov – Epee, Viktor Dronov – Sabre, and Alena Evdokimova taking the double in both Womens  Foil and Epee. Nino Tibiashvili (GEO) and Hakan Akkaya (TUR) medalling in Sabre and Foil.
