The IWAS Global Development Project aims to promote grass-root sport for persons with physical impairments in countries and regions where knowledge and awareness of para-sport is limited.
On Wednesday 7th December, IWAS Chief Executive, Charmaine Hooper and Head of Operations, Elin George met at the Malawi High Commission in London to introduce Malawi High Commissioner, His Excellency, Kena Mphonda to the IWAS Global Development Project.
The IWAS Global Development Project aims to promote grass-root sport for persons with physical impairments in countries and regions where knowledge and awareness of para-sport is limited. The project, which will be the first of its kind, will focus on the social inclusion and promotion of barrier-free opportunities for persons with physical impairments in Malawi.
The IWAS Global Development Project plans to host education seminars and workshops aimed at promoting the benefits of sport for health, well-being and social inclusion. The donation of sports equipment from IWAS through the IWAS Global Development Project is also under discussion to allow a lasting legacy to continue in the country.
IWAS CEO said, ‘It was a great pleasure to meet with His Excellency, Kena Mphonda to discuss the many possibilities for sport development in Malawi. We would like to extend our thanks to the Malawi High Commission for their interest in the Project and we look forward to working with them as preparations continue.’
