With a view to promote women in sport and the opportunites available to female athletes, IWAS opens bids to host the first edition of the IWAS Women's Games in 2018.

Following the IWAS Executive Board meeting in Pisa, Italy this weekend (11-13 November 2016), IWAS is delighted to announce plans to hold the first International Wheelchair & Amputee Sport Women’s World Games in 2018.

IWAS CEO, Charmaine Hooper said, ‘Promoting the opportunities available to the sportswomen of the IWAS Member Nations is one of the key focuses of the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation going forward. We feel the first edition of the IWAS Women’s World Games will aide significantly in the development of sport for women with physical impairments around the world and attract new women and girls into both recreational and competitive sport’.

The Games, which will be open to the Under 23 and Open classes, will be held in addition to the IWAS World Games programme as normal.

Following the announcement, IWAS is now calling for bids to host the IWAS Women’s World Games 2018 (click here for Interest to Bid – Response Form).

We look forward to confirming the host nation to the IWAS Membership in the coming months.
