The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation (IWAS) announced today that the bid to host the IWAS World Games 2011 has been awarded to Sharjah, UAE.
The Games will take place from 1 to 10 December 2011, at the Althiqah Club for Handicapped and other venues in the city of Sharjah. Bids were received from the city of Sharjah in the UAE and Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. The IWAS Executive Board deliberated over the bids and the final decision announced.
Announcing the winning bid, IWAS President Paul DePace said “I would like to thank both bidding organisations for their effort in developing such good bids. It was a difficult decision for the Board to make, and our vote in the end was extremely close due to the high quality of both bids. It is a testimony to the hard work put in by IWAS over the years to raise the profile of sport and the development of athletes”
In her response the IWAS Secretary General Maura Strange said “We look forward to the Games and General Assembly and feel sure that the International Wheelchair and Amputee family will once again benefit from their participation and that the Organising Committee will present us with a very accomplished World Games.”
