Important World Games for Team Brazil.
With the next Paralympics in Brazil 2016 not far away, as you would expect Brazil have sent another strong team to the IWAS World Games with a delegation of 30 people present.
Luciana Scheid who’s the Chef de Mission of the team told me the importance of these Games.
"In swimming we bought young athletes to acquire international experience in competition. Some of our top athletes nowadays took part in IWAS World Games in 2007, such as Andre Brasil Esteves (S 10). And with these athletes that are here it should be no different. They are some of our medal promises for Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
In athletics, we have four competitors, of which three, Taize Zimmermann (T37), Matheus Evangelista Cardoso (T37) and Bruno Marins Araujo (T47) took part at the IWAS Junior World Games in Puerto Rico, and medalling in all events they took part.
Jennifer Santos (T38) together with Bruno was also at the Lyon 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships.
In Archery we’ve brought our main National Team, from which Andrey Muniz Castro (W2 -compound) was a silver medalist at the 2009 Iwas World Champs. We also have the young athlete Diogo Rodrigues de Sousa (Standing – Recurve), who was also present at the IWAS World Junior Games 2013 where he took 4 silver medals (30m, 50m, individual combat and team mixed combat)."
