When he’s not managing membership applications or supporting Games entries, World Abilitysport Project Officer, Gavin Drysdale, is a Team GB European and World Champion Frame Runner.

Gavin started Frame Running in 2006 at five years old after a physiotherapist from a local therapy centre recommended he tried a running frame.

“I can remember falling in love with the sense of freedom and speed Frame Running gave me. It was the first time I had ran independently without any support from others” Gavin recalled.

At just ten years old, Gavin bagged his first medal at the Scottish Disability Sport Junior Championships in Grangemouth. This would mark the start of a collection that would be set to grow over the next decade.

Having turned 11 years old on the flight over, Gavin competed at Frame Running’s multi-sport Games debut at the IWAS World Games in Sharjah, UAE.

Gavin said, “Competing at the 2011 IWAS World Games aged just 11 was an incredible opportunity. It was such an exciting time as it was the first multi-sport Games Frame Running had been a part of. I have so many great memories from this trip!”

Fast forward to 2018 and Gavin took the 100m gold at the World Para Athletics European Championships and secured his name in Frame Running history with a World Championship gold the following year; but with the sport omitted from the Paris 2024 programme, a Paralympic medal has been missing from the collection.

On 3rd June 2025, the International Paralympic Committee announced that Frame Running, T72 100m, would be included in the LA2028 programme; marking its Paralympic Games debut.

Reflecting on receiving the news, Gavin said “Wow! I can’t believe this is actually happening! The inclusion of Frame Running in the Paralympic programme has been a dream of mine and my fellow athletes for a long time. To now be able to say it is reality is absolutely amazing!”

“This is a huge moment for the representation of High Support Needs (HSN) sport classes at the Paralympics. So many people have worked tirelessly to make this happen. We look forward to beginning our journey to LA 2028 in the coming months.”
