Excitement grows for the 10th IWAS World Junior Games 2014

03/12/2013

Games to return home to celebrate its 10th Anniversary at Stoke Mandeville, with IPC Athletics approval confirmed.

Following the announcement earlier this year IWAS is pleased to say that the preparations to bring home the IWAS World Junior (u23) Games to Stoke Mandeville in 2014 are steadily moving along.

The Games which is planned to include seven sports will be the first time the Games has returned to the UK in the 10 years of its existence. The dates will be from the 2nd to 8th August 2014.

The seven sports on the programme are:

  • Athletics
  • Archery
  • Powerlifting
  • Shooting
  • Swimming
  • Table Tennis
  • Wheelchair Fencing

IWAS is currently working towards confirming approval from all International Federations, but is pleased to confirm that IPC Athletics has approved Athletics.

Additional to these sports we are also hoping to arrange a demonstration of Para-Taekwondo and following the success of the first inclusion of Para-Triathlon at the IWAS World Junior Games 2013 in Puerto Rico, it is hoped that the sport can be added to the schedule.

The IWAS Games Committee will be meeting at Stoke Mandeville Stadium next weekend for further discussions and site assessment, so we look forward to bringing you more news after the 15th December.
