Entries Open for First IWAS Women’s World Games 2018

The landmark event, aimed at promoting and providing sporting opportunities for female athletes, will be hosted in Worcester, Great Britain from 27 August 2018.
IWAS is delighted to announce the opening of the first entries for the IWAS Women’s World Games 2018.
The landmark event, for exclusively female athletes, will be hosted from 27 August to 1 September in the city of Worcester, Great Britain, offering a preliminary sports programme of Athletics, Para-Badminton, Swimming, Table Tennis, Para Taekwondo and Wheelchair Fencing.
IWAS President, Rudi Van Den Abbeele said, ‘The development and promotion of sport for female athletes is an important initiative for IWAS. We are delighted to be hosting the IWAS Women’s World Games, the first event of its kind, this summer.’
Three facilities across the English city will host the competition including the University Arena, the country’s first sporting arena purpose-designed for athletes with physical impairments. Malvern College and Nunnery Wood Sport Complex will also welcome teams competing in Swimming and Athletics.
Mick Donovan, Head of the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise Science said: “The IWAS Games is what we are all about at Worcester – giving athletes will all physical abilities the chance to come together to compete and enjoy sport.”
Classification opportunities will be provided in a number of sports including Para Taekwondo and Wheelchair Fencing from 28 to 29 August alongside training followed by competition beginning on 30 August.

We look forward to contributing to the sporting careers and aspirations of the female athletes in our mission to provide opportunities and to promote women in sport.’
