In celebration of our 60th Anniversary, IWAS will collaborate with The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies at Coventry University by hosting a conference entitled: Disability Sport: A vehicle for social change?
In celebration of our 60th Anniversary, IWAS will collaborate with The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies at Coventry University by hosting a conference entitled: Disability Sport: A vehicle for social change?
The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies will play host to the conference that will take place from 23rd – 25th August 2012 in the iconic Coventry Cathedral just prior to the London 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony.
Following the conference, a Gala banquet will be held in the Cathedral nave in the evening of Saturday 25 August 2012 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of IWAS (formerly ISMWSF) and its many contibutions to the Paralympic Movement.
The conference will be an international inter-disciplinary event for academic and practitioners and will be based around the following four main themes:
- Disability sport for peace and development
- Disability sport and social inclusion
- The recreational and psychological value of sport for people with disabilities
- Sport and health for people with disabilities
It is intended that a publisher will be found for conference presentations in order to that a new and up to date body of social science knowledge be produced to assist the growing interest in disability sport amongst academics and students worldwide.
