The IPC are currently calling for nomination suggestions for the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability. The Laureus World Sportperson of the Year with a disability is awarded to the athlete who best demonstrates excellent athletic performance and achievement in a competitive sport on the Paralympic programme during the period 1 February 2009 to 15 December 2009.

The IPC are currently calling for nomination suggestions for the Laureus World Sportperson of the Year with a Disability. The Laureus World Sport Awards will be held in early Spring this year, the location is yet to be decided.
The Laureus World Sportperson of the Year with a disability is awarded to the athlete who best demstrates excellent athletic performance and achievement in a competitive sport on the Paralympic programme during the period 1 February 2009 to December 2009. The athlete must also have shown strong leadership qualities in his/her chosen sport, in community activities and in public speaking.
The athlete must have a functional disadvantage due to a permanent disability and therefore not be able to participate in elite sporting events for non-disabled athletes on reasonably equal terms.
