Bayraktar highlights entries for first Para dance World Cup in Turkiye

Nearly 60 dancers from 14 countries will grace the dancefloor at the Baia Lara hotel in Antalya, from Saturday (11 May) as Turkiye hosts its first ever Para Dance Sport World Cup.

The beautiful coastal resort will also see the debuts of new dancers from the host country, most notably male athletes.

They will follow in the footsteps of Turkiye’s best Para dancer, Baris Bayraktar.

Bayraktar is the reigning European champion in the men’s single class 1 and is on the road to defending his title later again this year. He is also the silver medallist from the 2023 World Championships.

Elsewhere in the men’s, Pawel Karpinski of Poland returns to the singles class 2. His latest medal came at the Worlds where he won bronze, but Karpinski has been winning podium places for many years and remains one of the sport’s top performers.

A similar quality can be expected in the women’s. Slovakia’s Helena Kasicka is the world and European champion in the women’s singles class 1. Austria’s Sanja Vukosinovc is the regional title holder in the singles class 2.

As well as the singles, competition will also take place in the combi and duo Latin, freestyle and standard. Combi couples compete with one athlete using a wheelchair to dance while their partner is a standing athlete. Duo couples both use wheelchairs to perform.
