2023 World Abilitysport Games Medal Design Unveiled

With just over 60 days to go until competition kicks off at the 2023 World Abilitysport Games, the medal design has been revealed. The Games are set to attract 1,000 athletes to Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from 1-9 December 2023.

The countdown is firmly on for the Games which are on course to attract more than 1,000 competitors competing in eleven competition sports including archery, athletics, badminton, cycling, powerlifting, rowing, swimming, table tennis, snooker, shooting, wheelchair fencing and three demonstration sports of Para canoe, takraw and Pétanque.

The Local Organising Committee, Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King Secretary General, Maitree Kongruang said,

“As we embark on final preparations, we are excited to finally launch the medal design for the 2023 World Abilitysport Games.”

“The Chumpon Gate, pictured on the medals, is a symbol of good luck and a warm welcome to visitors of Nakhon Ratchasima. In little over 8 weeks, we look forward to welcoming teams from around the world to the city for an unforgettable Games.”

The front of the medal has the Games logo’s contrasting flower emblem as its main feature, alongside host city, Nakhon Ratchasima’s famous Chumpon Gate, reflecting some of the iconic imagery traditionally associated with Thailand.

The Chumpon Gate is an iconic landmark for the host city and a place thought to bring luck to those who pass beneath it. Considered as a symbol of determination in tackling hardship and challenges, the Gate also symbolizes a warm welcome to visitors of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The 2023 Games will be the first held since the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) and the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) joined forces to become World Abilitysport in 2022.
